Light Test (Gone Wild)

What started out as a simple light test in our studio, quickly evolved into a creative opportunity for our team to try their hand at making a commercial-style video for Studio D.

Our inspiration came from the (somewhat) typical vision of perfume/fragrance commercials of the last decade - hard cuts, quick movements, upbeat music.
We utilized four different, simple lighting setups for this shoot - in total, we only used four lights to create all four looks:

#1 A single light on the floor, pointed up at the backdrop, with the reflector on it gave us a beautiful silhouette, contrasting the light against the dark.

#2 Adding a second light that simply reflected the brightness off the ceiling gave us a “bounced” look that lit up our head and shoulders (with a subtle shadow on our face), and made up at least half of the shots in the final videos.

#3 We achieved our “beauty shots” by using both a large and small softbox, with a grid on each one so as too not allow the light to spill out too far away from the subject.

#4 Our final look was made by simply using the small softbox like, given us a sort of spotlight or “exposed silhouette” look.
